VRChat is the weirdest social club you can download with unique avatars based on your favorite anime and comic book heroes, hundreds of mini-games and ever-expanding hangout possibilities. Available on Steam as a part of the early access program, VRChat was first played by HTC Vive or Oculus Rift users only, but now you can play it from your desktop.
Every player in VRChat is given a software development kit, which, along with Unity integration, makes it a unique customizable experience. Everyone can create their perfect world, and such an infinite number of possibilities creates lots of bugs and glitches during VR interactions. The strongest graphical point of the game is its expressive avatars: synchronizing with users’ lips and eyes, they reproduce the whole motion range of a human face and body. It is recommended to use VR gear to experience it fully.
However, apart from player’s motion capture, VRChat uses elementary physics, and the developers don’t plan on evolving it yet. There are also quite a few bugs and glitches, the most irritating of them being your avatar stuck in an object. But this one always goes with a world that is open to possibilities.
VRChat is the latest word in the multiplayer social games. And here’s why: you create your own avatar based on any comic book, anime, cartoon, movie or fairy tale hero ever created, you go out to one of the worlds out there and do anything you like with whomever you want. The world hub is the first place you get to after creating your character: worlds function like rooms in Hubbo Hotel, every one of them has a user limit of 16 people. If every existing world is full or you don’t like it, you can always customize your own on the base of an SDK similar to the character customizer. There are also portals you can enter one world to get to the other. When you get to the world you choose, the limitless interaction begins.
Reviewing VRChat is always tricky because it can have a few more options up its sleeve. Apart from simple interactions like chatting, fighting or even dating, you are given a set of games like bowling or capture the flag, an ability to draw or sculpt or merely watch videos together. You can always create the game of your own with the help of lots of interactive items and in the company of other users. Imagination is the key feature here.
The main problem of such an anarchistic is, of course, unwanted communication. Creators are working hard on this one with PING service that helps to prevent such occurrences. Besides, you can mute some users to escape the mess the dozen simultaneously sounding voices make, and unmute only those who you marked as friends.
VR devices easily control VRChat, most of your moves are made with the touchpad. When you release your touchpad or joystick, you get into the avatar’s point of view. The interaction with items is made through trigger tapping. There’s a “Quick Menu” you can access from any moment of the game; you can use it to add friends or mute offending players and those you have no interest in, there is also a “Publick Block” button for the most unbearable. In addition to a simple talk and gestures, you can use emojis. Another popular option is “Respawn” — it reboots your avatar if you get stuck in texture. The chat has a user-friendly tutorial that gets you through the basics of the game.
