Doki Doki Literature Club is a visual novel released in 2017 by Team Salvato. The main character attends meetings of the literary club, write poems and communicate with four girls: Sauori, Yuri, Natsuki, and Monika. The game looks like a cute romantic story. But later it becomes clear that it’s a real psychological thriller. That’s why the game is not recommended for children and people with an unstable mind. You can download Doki Doki Literature Club for Windows, Mac OS, and Linux. In this Doki Doki Literature Club Review, you’ll find out more about the gameplay, graphics and the game’s unique features. Don’t worry; we won’t reveal a single spoiler!
Graphics 5/5
The game is designed like a classic anime. The visual component looks very nice. The heroines turned out to be bright and diverse: they have different appearances which makes it easy to distinguish and memorize them. Of course, there is little animation in Doki Doki, but the developers used some cool elements of horror, such as screen shadows, glitches and terrified faces that glow the atmosphere and look really scary. The game lacks locations and background images.
Gameplay 5/5
The main character meets 4 beautiful girls (Yuri, Monika, Sauori, and Natsuki) and they offer him to join the literature club. And here our adventures begin! The player needs to build a relationship with one of them playing mini-games and creating poems. But soon everything becomes exciting and creepy, and a funny novel turns into a physiological thriller.
Note that almost all visual novels lack interactivity, alternative plotlines, and options to choose from, so you have to agree with everything that has been said. Doki Doki Literature Club consists of four acts. The intrigue grows, and you never know what will happen in the next scene of the act or how the novel could end.
Controls 4/5
Since it’s a visual novel, this is just a text, i.e., no action is required, you don’t need to run away from anyone, you don’t need to kill, you don’t need to make quick decisions. It’s like a book and all you need to read the text and choose options in the dialogs may completely change the plot.
Replay Value 2/5
It’ll take you just a few hours to read the novel. When you reveal all the girls’ secrets, it won’t be interesting to restart the game.
Conclusion
If you are a fan of thrillers and mystery, this game is right for you. The animation is good; you’ll like all the girls with their secrets and skeletons in the closet. When starting the game, you’ll see a warning that the novel is not intended for children, pregnant women and people with the unstable psyche. We believe that it’s not scary, but unexpected, intriguing and interesting.
